with that officer involved shooting. kron 4's reggie kumar is live and has more on what happened. >> reporter: authorities say the shooting happened when police officers confronted parolee paul morales. he started fighting with the police officers and they realized he had a hand gun. >> reporter: investigators were arriving on scene monday evening, the shooting happened in this neighborhood while police police officers were serving an arrest warrant for paul morales. he was wanted for parole violations and charged with child abuse. the resident has a criminal history. investigators say one officer shot paul morales to protect himself and his partner. she knows the people who linat the home where the shooting happened -- who live at the

home where the shooting happened. >> i know the family very well, for 30 years or so. it is not the owners or the residents that are involved. paul morales was taken to the hospital and underwent surge psychiatry expected to survive -- surgery and expected to survive. the police officers were not injured in the shooting and were placed on administrative leave. live, reggie kumar, kron 4 news. tonight two people are in custody after being arrested for beating a pregnant woman and robbing her on a bart train. kron 4's jeff bush talked with the victim who explains what happened. there is a expectation of safety on the train, especially at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon but last friday she was attacked. you can see she is pregnant.

started punching me on my face, on my eye, here and trying trying to cover my mouth but i continued screaming and struggling while the other girl was holding me and trying to grab my items. i have been looking to everyone on the train, help me. >> reporter: but the only person who tried to help was an elderly woman. >> he tried to scare her away, pretend he had a weapon so she backed off. >> reporter: she managed to break free and get off of the train and police arrested the two shortly after the attack. both suspects have criminal histories. in concord, jeff bush, kron 4 news. the oakland police department is struggling with an unusually high number of officers on injury leave and that is stretching the struggling police force thinner than usual. kron 4's dan kerman has the story. >> reporter: during an average 24 hour period, 100 police officers may be patrolling, sometimes more, sometimes less.

and throughout that day those working must respond to an average of 655 calls for service each day. the -- the work -- >> the work load is saggering. >> reporter: he says that work load couple with occupy oakland deployment is taking its toll. 90 officers not deployable due to injury or illness. that is up from 50. means fewer cops available to put out on the streets. >> should be concerning. as crime rise they only have a skeleton force of officers to serve them. the city budgeted for two police academies but those officers that graduate won't hit the street till next year.

address that ends with facebook.com. that allows you to communicate with other outside clients. they are looking to make it consistent across the site but if you don't like the change you are free to reset your information back to the way it was. >> reporter: the man accused of murdering 7 people was back in court today. in addition to the 7 murder charnels, one goh is also facing three attempted murder charnels. he is accused of shooting at oikos university last april. administrators say he was upset about a tuition dispute. he confessed to being the shooter but pleaded not guilty. governor jerry brown is promoting a plan to keep college tuition costs from going up. it is contingent on voters approving a tax increase. if that happens university of california and california state

university would get $125 million each to freeze tuition costs and that would save california state university students from $500 increase that begins this fall. the city of stockton has till midnight to renegotiate its debt or risk becoming the largest city to file bankruptcy. they shrunk their police force and firefighters. yet the city is still facing a $26 million budget deficit. officials are trying to use a new law to negotiate with cretters. no word -- creditors. no word tonight on developments. temperatures warmed today but they will warm even more over the next couple days. we will take a look at your forecast coming up.

linder at his retirement home two years ago. he claims he and his brother were molested by the priest 35 years ago but he was never charged because it was not reported till after the statute of limitations. yeardley love is on -- william lynch is on trial with dozens of supporters. reverend jerold linder took the fifth amendment refusing to answer anymore questions. william lynch supporters they reverend jerold linder is lying. >> we know reverend jerold linder molested countless children. there are $3 million in settlements against him and more victims coming forward every day. i guess it is satisfying in a court of law to have that

recognized and for the survivors. >> it is not unheard of where the victim doesn't testify, but where there were two people present, to not have the main witness testify, that will be a problem for the district attorney. i can understand they needed to bring the case and they will have to evaluate whether they can prove it. >> the judge denied a motion for a mistrail saying the prosecutors did not engage in misconduct. that according to the judge. the trial is scheduled to continue on friday but william lynch says he can not get a fair trial. investigators wrapped up their inquiry into the fire ota west oakland -- at west oakland construction site. a week and a half ago that it

once upon a time seattle they had griffey, a-rod, they were a hot place to be. tonight the a's doing to them defensively. 1-0, the a's, despite losing two to the giants, won 10-13. college baseball crowned a champion tonight. in nebraska, the hot spot, they had the olympic trials going on tonight. and trent gilbert puts arizona up 4-1 on south carolina. the wildcats are the national champions. caveat, south carolina had won the last two years so arizona, upset, they are the champions. 4-1. tuning up for the olympics. one of the legendary athletes.

michael phelps, ryan lochte. and michael phelps comes in second for the first time. both swimmers qualify for the olympics and they move on. michael phelps claimed his second olympic spot, you remember he insisted i won't go to the trouble again but the competition too great. he will be at it again. second tonight but qualifies in the race. and track and field qualifies tonight in the 800-meter. she is on to the olympics. one-and-done for venus williams. this young lady turned professional at age 14. close to 20 years ago here in oakland and 5 time champion but she has been struggling. all sorts of things going against her. somebody talk too slow tonight.
